The test is recognized by 3000 programs worldwide and also by DIAC and UKBA for student visa applications. For the purpose of obtaining permanent residence to Australia and for NZ education, the test is considered valid. Even Prestigious institutions like Harvard, Yale and Stanford recognize PTE scores.
PTE Academic is a computerized test scored on a scale of 10-90. The test lasts for 3 hours, though sometimes depending on the test pattern the length may vary. There are three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are twenty different question formats, ranging from multiple choices to essay writing and interpreting information.
The score range for each skill - listening, reading, writing, speaking is 10-90.Several enabling/sub skills skills namely grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary and written discourse influence or determine or rather have their effect on the scoring pattern for each skill and the overall score .
Excerpts from lectures and view graphs and charts and various accents from British and American to non-native speakers are a part and parcel of the test.

Scores for some item types depend on correctness alone, while others are based on correctness, formal aspects and the quality of the response. Formal aspects refer to the form of the response: For example, whether it is in excess or under the word limit for a specific item type. The quality of the response is measured by the enabling skills. For example, in the item type Re-tell lecture, the response is scored on skills such as oral fluency and pronunciation.
Scores for item types judging speaking and writing skills are generated by automated scoring systems. There are two types of scoring: Correct or Incorrect. Some item types are scored as either correct or incorrect. If a response is correct, a score of 1 is given, but if it is incorrect, no score points are given
Other item types are scored as correct, partially correct or incorrect. If responses to these items are correct, the maximum score points available for each item type is given, but if they are partly correct, only a few score points are given, but less than the maximum available for the item type. If responses are incorrect, no score points are given.
NOTE- The test length varies depending on the version of the test No candidate gets the maximum or minimum times indicated.
The overall score is based on the student's performance on all test items. For each item, the score obtained contributes to the overall score. The overall score range is 10-90 points. Good preparation definitely results in good PTE scores.

The results are available online within 3-4 days of your test date via e-mail notification.Result is provided online only, in the form of a score report. Results are fair and reliable. You can reappear for the test as many times as you want, if you are dissatisfied with your score or if you fail to secure the minimum eligible score.
The test can be scheduled 5 days after your last test date.
Students must keep a check on the score required by the university they have applied for. Most universities require a minimum score of 51 for undergraduate and post graduate courses and a minimum score of 36 for qualifications below degree level. For PR the minimum score is determined as a case-to-case basis, ranging between 65 – 90.
The cost to take the GRE is US$ 195
To reschedule, test-takers need to pay an additional $50. Re-scheduling can be done up to seven days prior to the test day.
The GRE score can be reported to four schools of the applicant's choice for free.
